Writer/Photographer Clerk - Class 3 - Term (ASAP - Until Further Notice)

Under the direction of the Chief Superintendent, the Superintendent’s Department manages the affairs of the School Division in accordance with the policies established by the Board. The Communications Section coordinates information services related to activities of the Board, the Division and its schools

This is a full-time, 12-month term position. Working under the direct supervision of the Senior Information Officer, the Writer/Photographer is responsible for scheduling, composing and preparing written and photographic materials for Winnipeg School Division publications, internet and intranet websites; editorial duties for publication and websites; and providing research and other various tasks as required.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Writing/Photography/Videography

Gathers and prepares written and photographic material for Winnipeg School Division publications and website, including the Spotlight feature on the website, employee information campaigns, advertising, public relations campaigns, social media and other projects as assigned. Interviews subjects and researches as required for written projects.

Provides photography, videography and filming for Winnipeg School Division related events/special projects including inventory and identification photos as assigned.

Works directly with schools to provide coverage for special events and projects by booking event coverage, arranging photo/video shoots for special assignments, and providing policy KBAA – Informed Consent forms as required by schools.

Compose news releases and media-related materials as requested by the Senior Information Officer.

Provide photo editing for administrative, school and third-party photos and digitally editing photos to ensure appropriateness for publication.

Serve as point of contact and vets photo archive requests for schools and outside organizations.

Editorial

Editing content for publications and Winnipeg School Division communiqués, including the Spotlight feature on the website, web content, employee informational materials, the Administrative Bulletin, news releases, social media, trustee and administrative speeches as assigned.

Coordinates and assigns freelance photographers; and edits submissions for the Spotlight feature on the website and other assignments.

Communications

Provides support and consultation to Senior Information Officer for media issues; requests to update web page with vital information by providing research and school contacts when needed; special projects, publications and other communications tasks.

Qualifications:
Completion of a diploma or certificate in Creative Communications or equivalent education, three years in a news gathering/journalism or public relations/communications environment required

Demonstrable knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products ( ie. Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Premier Pro video editing).

Proficiency in composition, grammar, and proofreading is essential

Knowledgeable in website design and administration

Experience with social media management, videography, filming and editing

As this position requires attendance at a variety of locations, the ability to work flexible hours and have a valid driver’s license is required
