100% PERM Reading Recovery Teacher Leader in Training

Applications are invited from teachers interested in training as a Reading Recovery Teacher Leader for the Reading Recovery Program. This ten (10) month course involves full time training at the Canadian Institute of Reading Recovery (Western Division). The candidate will be expected to train teachers to become Reading Recovery teachers and to provide support to previously trained Reading Recovery teachers. The individual trained for this position will be required to make a long-term commitment to this program. The position can be combined with a school-based Reading Recovery teacher position.

Responsibilities:
Year 1

Attend lectures and seminars on a daily basis

Work with four Reading Recovery students each day

Demonstrate teaching to colleagues in front of one-way glass

Conduct in-service sessions under the guidance of a Reading Recovery Trainer

Collect and maintain data on children in accordance with guidelines for the long-term tracking evaluation.

Year 2

Train 10-12 new reading Recovery teachers

Work individually with four Reading Recovery children each day

Provide support for previously trained Reading Recovery teachers

Make presentations to interested groups, trustees, administrators, etc.

Attend a three day Reading Recovery conference

Attend a three day Teacher Leader Professional Development forum

Arrange for two visits by a Reading Recovery Trainer from one of the Institutes.

Years 3 & 4

Similar to Year 2

Qualifications:
A long- term commitment to this program

A minimum of 5 years teaching experience with no less than 3 years experience at the primary level teaching reading

Preference will be given to candidates with undergraduate courses in reading/language arts

Fluency in French is an asset

Previous training in Reading Recovery will be considered an asset

Demonstrated leadership experience

Available for occasional travel through Manitoba.
